How to Decrease Bounce Rate
Bounce rate is just one, but an essential, factor of SEO and your website’s rank on Google.
More importantly, though, a low bounce rate is typically correlated with a better user experience, and higher a higher conversion rate… that means, happy visitors who turn into paying customers.
I've discovered several tips through researching and testing out ideas for my own website... and, through these tactics:
Those changes are OUTSTANDING, and guess what?! They ALL affect your SEO ranking AND your conversions!
Here are the 3 SEO tactics I used and that will help your website get seen by the people who need your talents the most.
1. DITCH THE LINKTREE
Linktree is a free website that allows you to house multiple links on it. Instagram users LOVE this because you can only put one URL in your Instagram bio, and if you put your Linktree it allows you to post several links on their landing page.
Why you shouldn’t use Linktree
It increases your bounce rate… and can by A LOT! Google sees a bounce rate as only a one-page session. Meaning if a person lands on your website and leaves without going to a second page then Google sees that as a “bounce”. Having a high bounce rate can signal to Google that your website is not a converting website because nobody wants to stay on.
The Best Linktree Alternative
You should create a landing page on your OWN website instead! All you have to do is create a page on your website (you can even keep it hidden if you want) then put a list of links on your website that link out to other pages on your website… You are essentially just creating your own Linktree landing page. And the best part is that you can totally customize it however you want J Here’s what mine looks like, and I personally like it much better!
Here’s what happens when you create your own page:
Person lands on your landing page on your website.
They click through to the link they want to visit, which is a SECOND page view on your website.
Google automatically sees this as a conversion and bounce rate GOES DOWN!
When you have Linktree your visitors have to do one more step for it not to be considered a bounce. Here’s what happens:
Person lands on Linktree.
They click through to the link they want to visit, which is a FIRST page view on your website.
In order for it to not count as a bounce, they have to click again to another page on your website, and if they don’t they bounce rate GOES UP!
With all the website builders (CMS) today it’s super simple to create this and is totally worth it!
2. DON'T GIVEAWAY ALL THE GOODS IN YOUR INSTA CAPTIONS
Why? because the more traffic you can send to your website to convert the more Google will like your website and rank you higher! PLUS your website is the deal-closer in most cases. It’s where you can post the most information about you and your offerings.
The easiest way to do this is:
Publish a blog post
Copy and paste one part of that post to your social, then
End (or lead) with a hook that gets them linking through to your website to read more.
Once you catch their attention, you send them through to your non-Linktree landing page and they go through the cycle listed above. Here's what my landing page looks like...
3. ADD A CALL TO ACTION ON EVERY PAGE OF YOUR WEBSITE
I don’t know why but people LOVE to be told what to do… and often they need to be told multiple times before they do it, which is why a call to action (CTA) is a MUST on every single page of your website!
You need to create a journey for your website visitors that makes them want to keep reading or gets them to contact you. Here are a few ideas for you:
On your homepage you can start talking a little about you by starting to tell them a juicy story; however, don’t give away the ending and prompt them to read more on your about page.
Make sure you are linking out to other blog posts that relate to the current post they are on. Maybe you have a quick list of your “Top 5” but you have another blog post that goes into way more detail on just one of the topics… make sure to let the reader know that there’s more glorious information waiting for them!
If you have an opt-in or a course, create a “sneak peak” and then prompt readers to see the rest by signing up/purchasing!
